trace levels of anti-anxiety medication and other abnormal chemicals found in Arlington public water source
"After the AP's story was distributed, Arlington officials provided a few more details: trace concentrations of five pharmaceuticals — one antibiotic, two anti-seizure medications, one pain reliever and one minor tranquilizer — had been detected in the city's untreated source water.
The city also named the five: sulfamethoxazole, dilantin, carbamazepine, naproxen and meprobamate. But it declined at that time to identify which one also had been detected in treated drinking water."
EDIT: from my post on the akon board where i was forwarded the article: not to mention the meds that naturally process through your system into urine. this is why i encourage people to take unused meds to the pharmacy for incineration instead of flushing them or throwing them in the garbage.
i'm surprised they didn't find a large level of female hormones in the water as well what with birth control pills and all.
sigh, damned if you do, damned if you don't. you drink tap and its got weird chemicals in it, and if you self filter you take out the fluoride *as a dental assistant, this is a nono for me ^_^*
and if you get bottled, they are in an uproar about plastic chemical leeching.
thats it! i'm drinking vodka from now on! although 10 calories a glass tap water hasn't effected me ill-ly so far...

| Memorial Day |
[26 May 2008|10:10am] |
THE last sunbeam Lightly falls from the finish'd Sabbath, On the pavement here, and there beyond it is looking, Down a new-made double grave.
Lo, the moon ascending, Up from the east the silvery round moon, Beautiful over the house-tops, ghastly, phantom moon, Immense and silent moon.
I see a sad procession, And I hear the sound of coming full-key'd bugles, All the channels of the city streets they're flooding, As with voices and with tears.
I hear the great drums pounding, And the small drums steady whirring, And every blow of the great convulsive drums, Strikes me through and through.
For the son is brought with the father, (In the foremost ranks of the fierce assault they fell, Two veterans son and father dropt together, And the double grave awaits them.)
Now nearer blow the bugles, And the drums strike more convulsive, And the daylight o'er the pavement quite has faded, And the strong dead-march enwraps me.
In the eastern sky up-buoying, The sorrowful vast phantom moves illumin'd, ('Tis some mother's large transparent face, In heaven brighter growing.)
O strong dead-march you please me! O moon immense with your silvery face you soothe me! O my soldiers twain! O my veterans passing to burial! What I have I also give you.
The moon gives you light, And the bugles and the drums give you music, And my heart, O my soldiers, my veterans, My heart gives you love.
Dirge for Two Veterans By Walt Whitman
Day is done, gone the sun, From the hills, from the lake, From the skies. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, May the soldier or sailor, God keep. On the land or the deep, Safe in sleep.
Love, good night, Must thou go, When the day, And the night Need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all To their rest.
Fades the light; And afar Goeth day, And the stars Shineth bright, Fare thee well; Day has gone, Night is on.
Thanks and praise, For our days, 'Neath the sun, Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky, As we go, This we know, God is nigh.
just remember, as much as we enjoy the time off, Memorial day isn't about just BBQ and sales. its about appreciating and respecting those that gave the greatest sacrifice to their country.
